The following is the real-life story of Wendy, a DIEP Flap patient.

I am a lucky lady!! I had Dr. Joshua Levine in my life. I am 59 years old-60 in October. Had DIEP in August - Now have NO CANCER, GREAT BREASTS AND FLAT STOMACH. How lucky can I be. 9 years ago I had DCIS and this year a recurrence. My sister and I both tested BRCA 2 positive, and that is when our research began.

I had to wait 6 months for reconstruction following radiation so I had time to make decisions and do a lot of research. I found Dr. Levine, had my consultation, was thrilled with meeting him and the procedure and was 110% sure of my decision to go ahead with the bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction with this WONDERFUL DOCTOR. His staff is outstanding arranged everything and all was set.

The whole experience was amazing. Hospital staff was totally attentive to every need. Dr. Levine was in everyday, along with several other doctors. I was up walking the second day. After leaving the hospital I stayed at Miracle House. This was another awesome experience for me and my family. While staying in NYC, my 5th day after surgery, I was walking with my kids on Broadway. Could not believe that this would be possible. Walked everyday to Broadway and back, drains and all. Looking forward to Stage 2 with this amazing doctor.

...Now just completed Stage 2. It could not have been easier for me. I was in and out of the hospital the same day. Some discomfort and home for a few days since I did the procedure on a Thursday, so home over the weekend. The results are soooo amazing. I truly feel like a different person. I hope to never have to worry about breast cancer for myself again, and have a brand new shape that I did not have before either. I truly consider myself very lucky to have come across this wonderful doctor.

I am ever thankful that medicine has come this far and EVER GRATEFUL that there are doctors like Dr. Levine who dedicate their lives and skills to improving the lives of others. THANK YOU!
