Preface

Advances in Breast Reconstruction

Welcome to the first issue of Seminars in Plastic Surgery on Advances in Breast Reconstruction.

The expanding field of breast reconstruction is becoming a subspecialty. Optimal care of thebreast cancer patient requires a multidisciplinary team to best manage this common complex process. Expanding of the concept of perforator flaps over the past decade has caused a paradigm shift in breast reconstruction. By decreasing donor site morbidity and preserving muscle function, this method has accelerated demand for autogenous reconstruction.

We are fortunate to have authors from all over the world contribute to this volume. Thisjournal is dedicated to plastic surgeons who believe in the importance of breast reconstruction and who desire to improve their art.

I would like to acknowledge Nicole Rogers, a Tulane medical student, and Jonathan Kaplan, a Louisiana State University surgery resident, for editorial assistance with this issue.

The following is a series of excerpts from a recently published volume of Seminars in Plastic Surgery of which Dr. Robert Allen was the guest editor.
